I am already gearing up for the madness that is Christmas in our house - got the meat for lunch on the big day already in the freezer, most of the pressies bought and my calendar is filled with lots of lovely parties, meals out and church services to really get me in the mood.
I love the run-up to the 25th but sometimes the day itself just feels like hard work for this busy mum of 7. DS#1 who actually left home last year has already told us he's coming home for some good food and home comforts - so that'll be him joining the rest of them making a mess, lounging around and watching TV while I spend hours preparing a huge lunch that I probably won't even want to eat by the time it's cooked. (is that burning martyr I can smell…..?)
A vicar friend of mine always serves sausage and mash or something equally simple on Christmas day to avoid this kind of hassle and I could make life easier for myself by not making all the trimmings but to me it's a tradition, a thing of pride and despite the work, the highlight of the day.
I have wondered in the past about going away for Christmas but with 7 children the thought of being crammed in a hotel room or two seemed less of a treat than a punishment!
And then today I found out that Butlins stays open all through the festive season - with, it seems, everything on offer for the perfect family Christmas including accommodation big enough for even our large family!
Apparently Butlins are offering Christmas themed short breaks at all three of their resorts, in West Sussex (Bognor Regis), Somerset (Minehead) and Lincolnshire (Skegness) from 13 December.
The whole family can enjoy wintery fun at an Ice Rink, the Winter Wonderland - where every child will get a free gift from Father Christmas and The Skyline Snowstorm show - so that's a white Christmas guaranteed!
There will also be Christmas themed arts and crafts, and a traditional family pantomime.
Guests visiting over Christmas Day will be treated to a 5 course Christmas dinner, meaning that you won’t have to worry about cooking or washing up. That sounds very appealing -Christmas without any peeling!
Families can also enjoy live entertainment from children’s favourite TV characters like Mike The Knight or Angelina Ballerina, make use of the indoor sub-tropical Splash Waterworld, or enjoy the traditional fairground. Guests visiting over New Year will enjoy a New Years Eve party for the whole family, with a spectacular fireworks display, and live entertainment throughout the break.
Christmas themed breaks start from only £41 per person, for a 3 night break. Book online at the Butlins website or call 0845 070 4730.
Disclaimer: This post has been written by me in my role as a Butlins Ambassador. As part of this role I receive a free family break. Small print about this blog post -All breaks are priced per person and subject to availability. Entertainment may vary by break and resort and is subject to change.
