I know, I know, it's only October but it's worth thinking ahead to the C word if you want to spread the cost and arrange exciting treats so you can relax during December.
Over the years I have had a variety of levels of success sorting out a visit to Santa. We've met him on steam trains, in garden centres, at the zoo, in shopping malls and in the school hall.
We have paid a wide range of prices which doesn't always reflect the quality of the experience and now I am a bit wary of taking my little ones somewhere for a Christmas experience in case it proves to tarnish the magic rather than enhance it.
Having said that I just found out about a new Christmassy experience which I think would combine a panto and Santa trip into one fun day out at Shrek's Adventure? in London.
We visited the attraction in the summer and my children aged 7-20 all thoroughly enjoyed it. You can read all about our visit here. I would imagine a festive version of the experience could only be Shrektacular. (sorry)

Apparently everyone is on Shrek’s ‘nice’ list as Christmas comes to Far Far Away. Throughout December Shrek’s Adventure! London will be full of festive cheer (with some ogre-ish touches!) offering guests an exclusive Christmas experience.
Here's the official blurb:
"With over 20 live actors and 10 separate shows, Shrek’s Adventure! London is the perfect family alternative to a Christmas Panto. There are laughs and jokes for all and even a chance to take a starring role in the action at London’s latest attraction, which is brought to life with live action and cutting-edge technology.
Guests will find themselves thrown into a unique, laugh-out-loud adventure with Shrek and all his DreamWorks pals. During the visit there is also a jaw-dropping ride on Donkey’s 4D bus, allowing guests to soar above London on their journey to Far Far Away."
At the end of the adventure guests will be welcomed back to London by Shrek himself, dressed for the occasion in his festive best. You can take a selfie by his Christmas Tree, (you can tell he decorated it himself!) or have a group photo taken and share it with your friends and family just in time for the holiday season. Young guests could even get to take home a special Christmas treat (subject to availability).
If all the excitement has put you in a festive mood, you can take home your own piece of the DreamWorks magic with exclusive Shrek Christmas decorations, candy canes or a gingerbread chalet.
The gift shop will be fully stocked with Christmassy bits and pieces including packs of greetings cards, Shrek and Donkey Christmas jumpers or a cuddly toy of your favourite character. I totally want a donkey-themed Christmas jumper!
For something truly unique there are even 5 foot tall Donkeys – a monumental addition to your nativity scene! Ok, I admit it - I am slightly donkey obsessed.
Christmas comes just once a year, so why not do something a little bit different in 2015? At Shrek’s Adventure! London it’s certain to be a fairy tale Christmas like you’ve never seen before.
