My daughter loves to create- anything from comic strip cartoons to braided bracelets. If anyone asks what she would like as a gift I know I am generally safe suggesting something crafty - like the MyStyle Craft Make Keepsake Lockets from Interplay.
The set contains everything you need to make two lockets including a large heart charm, a selection of shaped sequins, beads and gems plus two silver coloured chains and a sheet of 24 colour backgrounds.
My 8-year-old son spotted his sister (aged 10) exploring the contents of the box and decided he would like to make a locket too as a Christmas gift for his class teacher. Aaaah!
The craft is quite simple with the fiddly parts done for you and easy step by step instructions in case you need them. The fun is more in designing a unique locket using the accessories in the box and anything you would like to add. There are even scrolls so you can enclose a secret message!
The two of them had so much fun creating their individual lockets and it was lovely to see them working together.
The only downside is that the clip holding the locket closed is quite stiff and they needed my help to open and close it. The upside of that is that the locket doesn't spring open easily scattering all the precious bits they have put inside!
The Interplay MyStyle Make Keepsakes Lockets set (RRP £12.99) was designed by a professional jewellery maker and I have to say I was impressed at how sturdy the lockets are. They are quite large and so your little jeweller could pop all sorts of precious keepsakes inside.
My daughter said:"It was fun to make my own locket. I liked choosing the background and that I could put my own things in it."
