We love the Shrek's Adventure! London experience on London's Southbank so were very excited to learn about the new Christmas grotto where you can meet a Shrektacular Santa and some highly entertaining elves.
We visited this weekend unsure what exactly to expect. I should have known that in keeping with the attraction it would be a cut above most grottos.
Not been to Shrek's Adventure! London? How can I describe it? There's a 4D bus ride followed by an imaginative and fun immersive theatre experience where you move from room to room meeting some fantastic characters as you collect items to find sanctuary away from the tiny bundle of comical fury, Rumplestiltskin. You can read the post I wrote after my very first visit to find out more.
The actors are always enthusiastic and entertaining and the elves helping at the grotto are no exception.
The grotto is decorated with the same level of detail as the rest of the attraction - I don't want to give too much away but you will see some popular Dreamworks characters in there.
My son who has autism was a little overwhelmed but I was delighted to see the elf adapt to try to include him without raising his anxiety levels.
Santa too quickly realised that my boy didn't want too much interaction but had a nice chat with my daughter and her friend pointing out some odd decorations Shrek had apparently offered for the grotto. Fish bone baubles? I'm not sure it will catch on!
The visit ended with Santa handing out gifts, beautifully wrapped in Shrek-themed wrapping paper.
As grottos go I'd say it was one of the better experiences we have had over the years so it gets a thumbs up from us.
You can book a visit to Santa at Shrek's Adventures for £4.70 booking online in advance or £5 on the day as an add on to your admission ticket (prices start at £19 pp direct from the website). Pre-booking is strongly advised to save money and avoid disappointment. There are lots of discounted packages on the website to include other attractions and make a fabulous day out for all the family.
