I used to have a recurring dream. I used to dream that I suddenly noticed an extra internal door in my home and when I opened it, discovered a room I never knew about. Can you tell I was desperate for extra space in our crowded home?
Then, two years ago we finally had a conservatory added to our home and I cannot tell you how much difference it has made to our life and how I feel about our home.
Don's misunderstand me - I know I am very lucky to have a home in a fantastic location but with just one room plus a kitchen downstairs we had nowhere to retreat to apart from bedrooms if you wanted quiet time away from the TV, and very little space to entertain friends. We always used to have to squash round a table in the kitchen and hope no-one needed to visit the toilet halfway through dinner!
Now I have a good-sized conservatory I have extra seating space and a more formal dining area. We have chosen not to put a TV in there and I find it such a relaxing space, great to retreat to. I have room for a bigger table which I love to fill with food for friends and family!
Conservatories have come a long way since the 80's when they first because popular as a quick and economical way of extending the home. Not everyone wants white UPVC (We have thyme green wood) and luckily there are lots of options for colour, materials and shape. You can choose full glass or a structure with a small wall and some conservatories nowadays come with a "proper" roof.
Recently I visited the new modernised SEH BAC Show Centre in Chelmsford which was being re-launched by TV celeb Dom Littlewood.
It's a huge space where anyone looking for home improvement inspiration can walk through a huge range of conservatories and browse beautiful doors and windows.
I defy anyone to wander round this lovely showroom and not be inspired- seeing structures up and furnished really gives you an idea of how each model might look on your own home.
I was enchanted with the range of doors on display - I'd love a new front door which doesn't let in draughts or need repainting - I saw a few which would suit my home's vintage style beautifully while offering modern comforts and security.
You can get a free quote for your project - new windows, doors, guttering, fascias, soffits or a modern conservatory- with no obligation to buy.
SEH BAC has won multiple awards, has over 45 years of trading under their belt and a great Trustpilot rating. Check out their website for details of show centre locations, finance availability, special offers and much more.
Take it from me - adding a conservatory is a lot cheaper than an extension and a lot less hassle and cheaper than moving house. With some expert help you could be enjoying your new space sooner than you might think.
