Even though I have always lived inland, I absolutely love the ocean. Even a day trip to the seaside lifts my spirits so I'm really not sure why in my 50 years on this planet I've never moved to the coast.
This week I was in Brighton where the weather was somewhat changeable. One day the waves were towering and crashing onto the stony beach while just a couple of days later weak autumn sunshine was reflected off a millpond-flat surface.
That's the thing about the sea - whatever the weather it fascinates me. I love blowy days, white horses prancing atop the waves and the taste of sea spray.
I also love hot sunny days where the soothing sound of gently lapping waves is probably one of the most relaxing sounds on earth.
Abroad or in the UK, even a glimpse of the sea lifts my spirits and fills my heart with joy.
