Amazing decor, peacock feathered roller-slating servers and dapper mixologists combined with a DJ set you can't help but dance to makes the newly refurbished Le Fez in Putney, London a must-do for anyone who loves a night out. (AD)
This versatile and beautiful venue manages to be both a perfect spot for an after work cocktail and a great destination to dance until the early hours after the owners used the enforced months of closure wisely, developing and refurbishing what was always a premium space for London’s culture connoisseurs.
The warm and welcoming venue now offers a luxurious and immersive garden themed lounge bar as well as an intimate club space. It is now an even more perfect place to spend lost afternoons with old friends and make musical memories with new ones.
As well as a new drinks list packed with a mouth-watering selection of cocktails, champagnes and spirits, the Le Jardin space has all new seating, carpeting and exotic wall covering plus the Secret Garden; the most 'instagrammable' space you will find with a background that sums up the decadence of the surroundings. Planting of bougainvillea vines and other new flowers and foliage adds a jungle feel.
When I was invited to the press night to celebrate the relaunch of the destination I was worried I would be lost amongst the cool young glitterati. My 20-year-old daughter, home from uni, kindly volunteered to accompany me- she might have heard there would be complementary cocktails! Anyway, I needn't have worried as I felt very welcome.
Walking down the steps from the street and into Le Jardin was like being transported into a magical fantasy land. As cynical ex-journo very little makes me say "wow" but this place really does have the wow factor.
We were not going to pass up the chance to sip our cocktails sitting in a birdcage booth, people watching and enjoying the very cool sounds including a live trumpet show - the blend of live trumpet with the DJ set was thrilling with the performer mingling with guests for an immersive experience.
If I am to be honest- and I always am- our first Whisky Sour was a little disappointing. The second was better but I believe mixology should be consistent so I was a little concerned. Thankfully for the rest of the night all of the cocktails we sampled were top notch. Everyone's allowed a wobble, especially on opening night.
The cocktail menu has a great selection of old faves, some with a few twists, and some house specials. I loved chatting to the two peacock feathered cocktail waitresses just before their rollerskating dance set in Le Club -one of them was a performer with that famous rollerskate-based global hit, Starlight Express!
In conclusion, Putney's Le Fez is a great place to make up for lost lockdown time and make some new happy memories. I danced until my feet hurt, met some cool new people, laughed until my sides ached and had a thoroughly fabulous evening.
